Pregnancy Swelling A-Foot?

Many pregnant women think that they are going to get away with not having swollen feet during their pregnancy.  Then toward the tail end of the pregnancy - especially if it's the summer months - the feet really begin to swell. Unfortunately, the fact is that women retain water during pregnancy to help with fetal development, so there's not much you can do to prevent water retention or swelling.

Mild swelling is best relieved by taking short breaks during the day where you elevate your legs above the level of your heart. If you're working in an office up until you have your baby, try to keep a box or stool under your desk that you can rest your feet on. Also, try to eat a diet that is rich in water-based veggies, such as leafy greens, cucumber, bell peppers and celery.  It has said that some dairy in the diet can help with water retention too. Of course, comfortable shoes are definitely a must.  This is not a time in your life to try to make a habit of cramming your tootsies into a stiletto.

Light massage of the swollen areas helps relieve swelling, and feels great too. Be sure to only use lotions and creams on your feet that are a part of a safe pregnancy skincare line.

However, one problem can arise later in pregnancy for self-administered massage. The abdomen can be so big that it is a challenge to get a really good angle to put the cream on the feet.  Enlist your significant other to help with the task.

Here's what is recommended:
1. Soak your feet in the tub for a few minutes (optional)
2. Ask your partner to lightly massage Foot Relief Cream into your feet
3. For best results, keep your feet elevated for 10-15 minutes after massage
